I had never heard of hot milk cake til I met my former mother-in-law. It was her favorite so I HAD to find a recipe and in one of my River Roads books there it was, and it was so easy with nothing but basic ingredients!! is a fantastic cake that’s even better with a thick chocolate buttercream frosting!!!
You can make the sauce in advance and freeze it for several months. I just freeze sauce in gallon sized freezer bags. You can also freeze in plastic storage containers. If just using the fridge, I wouldn’t make it more than 3 days in advance because of the meat.
Thanks Gemma for great recipes! My vanilla cake texture is dense and not light but heavy. What could be the reason? I used superfine flour+ corn flour instead of cake flour and reduced sugar to half. Looking forward to your reply. Tq

I haven’t tried making this in smaller pans, so I don’t know an exact amount. I’m guessing the temp would stay the same, as long as they are the same type of pan as your 9×13 and I would say that they’ll cook a little longer, since it is in smaller pans. I would just keep checking once you’ve hit that 32 minutes and add a couple every time? I’m sorry, I wish I knew better. Let me know how long they end up baking for and we’ll pass that along. Oh, my goodness!! I baked this late this morning. I ate this for lunch instead of the gumbo I prepared for today. My taste buds were excited – cake and cinnamon rolls all in one!!!! After reading the reviews the other night, I was a little concerned about over swirling and too much butter. Everything came out perfect! I didn’t have any problems. My family enjoyed it. Thanks for the recipe.

WE have enjoyed this recipe for many years. It was given to me by a college friend. It looks like a standard fruit cake, but the rich, moist texture of apples, dates, raisins and nuts makes it a very satisfying dessert. A slice of this cake, topped with whipped cream, whipped topping or a big scoop of ice cream will have your guests coming back for more.

Well my chops are done and I must say they are so tender and juicy. I followed the instructions exactly as written but also seasoned the chops with a little garlic and pepper (old habit) and they turned out great (Wish I could post a picture). Of course I had to sample a little piece right away. Mmmm mmmm good. Quick and easy recipe. Thanks for sharing.

This turned out beautiful and tasted amazing. The frosting was wonderful as well. However, it was a bit dry. I followed every direction to the T (I went super slow to make sure I did it all right), but it still turned out dry. Is there something I could try to make it more moist?
