Hi Erin, I’m sure you could although I haven’t tried it. But I imagine they would work the same way. You cook them the same way as you cook regular lasagna noodles, right? So I would think they would soften the same. Thanks!
Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until the tops are golden and a toothpick poked into the center of the layer comes out clean. (A single rectangular pan will take longer to bake than two round ones.) Loosen the sides of the cake from the pan with a thin knife, then turn out onto a rack and peel off the paper. Let cool completely before covering with frosting.
Ditch the fat from the pan and add new olive oil along with 2 cloves of garlic and a pinch of crushed red pepper. Bring the pan to medium-high heat. When the garlic becomes golden and very aromatic, remove it from the heat and discard. Toss in the mushrooms and season them with salt. Cook the mushrooms until they are soft and wilted and dark brown, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from pan and reserve. Repeat this process with the remaining garlic and the zucchini.
This recipe is delicious! The sauce is fantastic but if you brown the meat and then simmer the sauce for 1-2 hours you’re left with some pretty overcooked pieces. I’m making my sauce tonight and just adding the meat raw. It’s going to be super yummy! Great recipe!

I served this with this Broccoli Salad with Sour Cream Dressing. No mayo in the dressing, but honestly, you wouldn’t know it. Broccoli was/is on sale at Woolworths and I stocked up like a crazy woman. Now an entire shelf in my fridge is jam packed with 2 shopping bags filled with broccoli. Then lay 1/2 pound of mozzarella cheese slices on top of the cottage cheese mixture. This particular brand of cheese was cut very thin, so I had to double up the slices to make 1/2 pound. Don’t let this throw you off—some brands are cut thicker, and would only require a single layer of slices. NOTE: I prefer sliced mozzarella, but you can certainly use grated mozzarella if necessary.

Prepare Frosting: Pour water to a depth of 1 1/2 inches into a small saucepan; bring to a boil over medium heat. Whisk together 2 egg whites, 1 1/2 cups sugar, and next 3 ingredients in a heatproof bowl; place bowl over boiling water. Beat egg white mixture at medium-high speed with a handheld electric mixer 12 to 15 minutes or until stiff glossy peaks form and frosting is spreading consistency. Remove from heat, and spread immediately over top and sides of cake.

Sorry but I live in Australia too and we do not sell cake flour here. Cake flour is different to Self Raising flour and All Purpose flour or plain flour. The difference between cake flour and plain flour is the the gluten, there is a higher percentage of gluten in the plain flour that’s why cake flour is suggested for cake baking because of its lower gluten content which makes for a lighter cake. When cake flour is called for in a recipe I just use 1 cup of plain flour less 2 tablespoons and add 2 of cornflour or cornstarch to make a cup.
