Meet the Cook: When I was a girl, this was my family’s favorite Sunday cake. Since I’m “nuts” about nuts, I added the pecans. It became our youngsters’ favorite as well. My husband and I have four grown children and seven grandchildren. -Arlene Grenz, Linton, North Dakota
I tried to read all the questions so sorry if I missed it — how much batter does this recipe make? I need to make a different size cake and don’t want to have too much or be short, which would be worse. Thanks.
Sooo i only got a 15 ounce container of whole fat ricotta geese not realizing i needed 30oz and when i went back to the store they only had low fat, is it okay to mix a low fat and whole fat for the 30oz or can i do cottage cheese?
My guess is your poor results were due to using margarine rather than butter as called for in the recipe. That would explain the oily texture. Try it again with butter and I’m sure you’ll have a better cake!
In a large resealable plastic bag, combine 1/4 cup flour, mustard, garlic pepper and seasoned salt. Add pork chops, one at a time, and shake to coat. In a large skillet, brown chops in oil on both sides.
If your cake peaks in the center, your oven may have been too hot at the start of baking, or you could used too much flour and not enough liquid. Again, be precise in your measurements to avoid this common mistake.

What is a Butter Cake? Well, it’s a cake with lots of butter in it, for one. (Obviously!) I’ve heard it referenced as a Kentucky Butter Cake also, so maybe it originated in the south? The southerners invented the best foods didn’t they? My love for red velvet cake, pecan pie, and biscuits tells me I was born in the wrong section of the country!
I found this recipe more than five years ago and have been making it for family gatherings ever since. The coffee-flavored frosting complements the moist banana cake. —Kathy Hoffman, Topton, Pennsylvania
Not only does lemon reduce the appearance of cellulite (thanks to vitamin C), but it’s also been shown to elevate mood and counteract the stress hormones that trigger the storage of belly fat. Throw vitamin-packed, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial basil leaves into the mix and you’ve got one healthful pork chop.
Full of peppery flavor, these pork chops are surprisingly easy to make. All you’ll need is a jar of jalapeño pepper jelly, basil, and white wine. When choosing a white wine, opt for a dryer blend with a low sugar percentage. Sauvignon Blanc, Albariño, Chardonnay, and Muscadet are very dry wines; but Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Viognier, and Riesling will also work. Don’t worry about marinating your bone-in pork chops overnight. Just combine the pepper jelly, dry wine, and basil over low heat, and throw them in a zip-top freezer bag for 30 minutes. Choose thinner, 1-inch chops for quicker grill time.
